A graduate of John Glenn High School, Colt was a first-round pick (No. 22 overall) by the Seattle Mariners in the 2023 MLB Draft, just a few weeks after his 18th birthday.
In 2022, Colt was named the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year and played for the United States in the U-18 Baseball World Cup, batting .360. In 2023, he received the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year Division II award.
